Marriage wars- Why you should consider sleeping with separate blankets

Let’s admit it! We all go through it. While we love our significant others and enjoy snuggling up with them, sleeping with them can sometimes feel like a game of tug of war, with one person hogging all the blanket.

While the CDC encourages 7-9 hours of sleep we must remember that it is not just the amount of sleep that is important but also the quality of that sleep. For that reason, it may be time to consider sleeping with separate linen

The benefits of sleeping with separate blankets

Separate blankets may save your relationship

At some point you have to accept that for the sake of maintaining a happy relationship we have to literally put a stop to the blanket war. In this case, sharing is not always caring!  It’s no surprise that an American National Sleep Foundation poll showed that almost one in four married couples sleep in separate beds. But before you consider a sleep divorce, it may be a good idea to try sleeping with separate blankets first.

Sleep and your immune system

Studies show that a lack of quality sleep increases your chances of getting sicker after being exposed to viruses and may even result in longer recovery times. It makes sense then for us to aim towards getting a good nights rest.

Sleep and weight loss

Did you know that a lack of sleep may even make you fatter? Yes, you heard right. When we are tired we tend to snack more usually opting for unhealthy sugary options, sodas and energy drinks to keep us going. These high calorie foods are a sure way to pack on the pounds.

Separate blankets may mean better mental health

Disturbances in sleep can lead to fatigue, irritability, mood swings and an inability to focus. According to the American Sleep Association, “sleep affects our daily functioning and our physical and mental health in many ways that we are just beginning to understand”.

No more temperature issues

To add to the pressure of sharing bedding, we also have to deal with different temperature preferences. While one partner may love burying themselves under layers of warmer bedding, the other might prefer something lighter like quilts. When you sleep with separate bedding this is no longer an issue as each of you can find your ideal bedding temperature.

But wait! How does this affect your room decor?

If you are someone that takes pride in your decor then separate bedding may sound extremely cringe-worthy. But this does not have to be the case. Just because you are sleeping with separate blankets does not mean you have to make your bed with separate bedding. It simply means pulling out an extra blanket from your linen cupboard right before bed and then putting it away again in the morning. Nobody will even know. But they definitely will see an improvement in your overall health and wellness.

I think it’s a good idea to sleep using separate blankets because I’m one of those ladies who takes almost the whole blanket and my husband struggle to get enough to keep himself warm.😅😅😅
